Cheers, the Boston bar made famous in the TV series of the same name, was known as the place where “everybody knows your name.” Just a few blocks from Cheers is a place I love – Trinity Church, Copley Square in Boston – the place that is the center of my life, the place I work and minister from.
At first glance, one might think that Trinity is utterly different from Cheers. A casual passerby, looking at the craggy and imposing exterior of the church, might assume that it has none of the warmth and camaraderie that drew people to Cheers.
Wrong!
Instead, I often think Trinity is like a geode. Looking at the outside, it seems cold, prickly, and anything but inviting. Stony and lifeless.
But break through a geode’s crusty exterior and you’ll be awestruck by an astounding and unexpected beauty within.
And so it is with Trinity. Inside its somewhat foreboding exterior is an awesome beauty, and a community of people with extraordinary warmth, eager to meet you, to hear the tale of your exploration of the Mystery at the heart of all that is, and to share with you the story of their ongoing pilgrimage, as together we week to delve deeper into the Divine.
At Trinity, we believe that God already knows your name, and loves you. We also believe that through you God has a story to share, and that without knowing you and your story, we will miss out, not knowing you, and not knowing the dimensions of God that you know.

We would love to meet you and get to know you. We’d like to know your name, and share this journey into God with you. This summer, join us on Sunday for any of our services: 7:45 and 10 a.m., and 6 p.m.
Blessings and peace,
Bill Rich
